My name is Rick Stewart, retired LTC from the Army, and I was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. I first noticed symptoms while serving my 3rd tour in Iraq. Fortunately the progression is slow. At this point the disease has affected my upper torso resulting in the loss of use of my arms and impacting by breathing. Although I have received excellent care from the VA, I get frustrated at the lack of any treatment.
