I served on active duty for 26 years as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer. After retiring from the Navy I continued to support national security as a civilian contractor until January 2011 when ALS made retirement unavoidable. ALS is gradually reducing my ability to communicate. I will not surrender prematurely to ALS' insidious physical and morale effects. Research in the last few months provides evidence that with sufficient resources ALS symptoms can be controlled. Hopefully, the nation will now capitalize on this research and invest the resources needed to help us all.
