The emotional, physical, and financial challenges of ALS can be overwhelming for families living with the disease.  As a person living with ALS begins to lose their abilities and independence, family members frequently must take on the responsibility of stepping in as caregivers for their loved ones – oftentimes in addition to maintaining their homes and raising families.  

In addition to these ongoing responsibilities, family caregivers may also provide a person living with ALS regular transportation to ALS clinic appointments, implement the use of specialized devices to communicate and modify their home for accessibility.  These are key components to maintaining quality of life – for both the person living with ALS and their caregivers. 

The Community of Angels Fund grant program seeks to reduce the financial burden of ALS for these families. Recognizing an unmet need, The Community of Angels Fund program was created by Mark Calmes, ALS Association Board of Trustees member and St. Louis board member, in honor and in memory of his wife Jane, who passed away from ALS in August 2017. The program will provide financial assistance for expenses such as respite care, communication devices, home modifications, medical care, and more. The Community of Angels Fund aims to help maintain the highest quality of life for individuals living with ALS, despite their diagnosis. 

To apply for a grant provided by our Community of Angels Fund please contact your local care service team. Applications are accepted and processed as they are received, and awards are granted annually until funds are no longer available.
