Youth Raise ALS Awareness with Iced Tea Challenge

Young people across the country are embodying the “Raise Your Voice” spirit for ALS Awareness Month through the Iced Tea Challenge to support The ALS Association.

Yesterday, Iced Tea Challenge campaign organizer Rebecca Wetzel appeared on the “TODAY” show to discuss how youth can be more involved in philanthropy and raising awareness for ALS.

Rebecca’s grandfather and father died of ALS and her aunt has been diagnosed with a disease linked to ALS. Rebecca has a 50 percent chance of having the genetic mutation that causes ALS.

While she’s decided not to get tested to see if she carries the gene, she’s committed to raising ALS awareness and funding for ALS research.

“My choice has been to do something to be proactive and to help end the disease in another manner,” said Rebecca.

The tagline for the Iced Tea Challenge is “Pour Tea. Spread Hope.” Rebecca is asking children, tweens, and teens to open an Iced Tea Stand this Sunday, or any day in May, to join forces with other young people across the country who are working to make their generation the first to find a cure for ALS.

“My hope for the next generation […] is there will be a cure for ALS,” said Rebecca.

Please help the young people in your life host an Iced Tea Stand this Sunday or any day this ALS Awareness Month.

Or, if you see an Iced Tea Stand in your neighborhood, be one of its best customers. (Who doesn’t love a delicious glass of iced tea?)

By doing either one – or BOTH – you’ll be making a difference to everyone in the ALS community by helping to raise funds that will support research and patient programs.

And then Raise Your Voice to elevate the fight against ALS! Together, we will be heard.
