Chris Tonniges is an executive leader, financier and nonprofit president and CEO. He has been a board member of the ALS Association since 2014 and served as the president of the Mid-America Chapter from 2019-2023.

Chris was inspired to get involved with the ALS Association when his father, Dr. Tom Tonniges, was diagnosed with Bulbar Onset ALS in 2011. Chris became one of his father's caregivers along with other friends and family until he passed away in 2015.

In addition to serving on the ALS Association Board of Trustees, Chris is the president and CEO of Lutheran Family Services in Omaha, Nebraska. Lutheran Family (LFS) is a faith-foundational, not-for-profit, multi-service human care organization providing children's services, adoption and foster care, behavioral health, immigration and refugee resettlement and senior services. Under Chris' leadership, LFS has seen unprecedented growth in its budget and staff.

Prior to joining Lutheran Family Services, Chris had a successful 22-year career in banking.  He continually sought new opportunities and eventually served as the vice president of treasury services specializing in financial technology.

Chris successfully guided the Mid-America Chapter of the ALS Association through several significant changes, including the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and moving the chapter office to a new location. As the chapter board chair, Chris demonstrated skills in leadership, finance, advocacy at both state and national levels, corporate and personal fundraising, and care services.

Chris currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska, with his wife and four children.
