Virtual Home Modification and Safety Assessment Program

Most homes are not designed or constructed to accommodate the needs of disabled people in terms of accessibility, safety, independence, and location.

The ALS Association offers virtual home assessments, provided by a home modification specialist that helps people with ALS identify home accessibility, mobility, and safety challenges. Potential options and recommendations allow families to make informed decisions about the best modifications for accessibility and safety in their environment.

Virtual home assessments are offered at no cost for people diagnosed with ALS and are done on a Zoom platform, or through Facetime, Skype, or Duo.

  • Is the home accessible?

  • Is the person with ALS safe with these adaptations? Is the caregiver safe?
  • What makes sense for your current budget? For future needs?
  • Comparison of home modifications versus cost of hiring care support.
  • Is moving necessary?
