Ned Norton, died of ALS in 1993. Ned was proud of his service as a Ranger but suspected that it may have been the cause of his ALS. Ned's ALS was aggressive and fast--18 months from diagnosis to death. He left two children, Elizabeth (born 1979) and Charles (born 1983) who were forced to grow up without the father who adored them. Unfortunately, by the time it was presumed that his ALS was possibly caused by his Viet Nam experience, it was too late for them to receive any education benefits. The VA should reconsider the age limit and make all surviving children eligible.
