After leaving active duty in 1980, Cali Carranza served as an Army Reserve recruiter for over 30 years, earning numerous awards and honors, and setting various recruiting records in the United States Army Recruiting Command. Even as ALS made it impossible for Cali to do his paperwork and difficult for him to talk to recruits, he was a mentor to other recruiters and a friend to the hundreds of men and women that he put in the Army. Cali died of ALS on May 1, 2012. He will always be remembered for his positive attitude, his megawatt smile and his deep love of family, music and country.
