National Volunteer Week kicks off today. The weeklong celebration of volunteers began in 1974 and honors the people who come together and volunteer their time and resources to solve some of the world’s greatest problems. 

Problems like ALS. Volunteers are critical to the fight against ALS, including the volunteers who lead our fight as members of The ALS Association board of trustees. Each of them were inspired by personal connections to ALS and are committed to do whatever it takes to continue our momentum in the fight – especially during a global pandemic. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has made volunteering difficult. And this is a small sampling of the experiences and perspectives of our talented board and the thousands of other people nationwide who stand up and show up to defeat ALS. 

But in these times, we salute the many volunteers who are finding unique ways to stay engaged in service to their communities.
