Scott Kauffman became involved with ALS in 2012 when his son, then 27, was diagnosed with ALS, “the worst diagnosis imaginable, with the least amount of progress,” he once said. Fostering collaboration within the ALS community is Scott’s priority as a member of The ALS Association National Board of Trustees, and his business acumen makes him astutely capable to be a highly effective member of this body.

Scott Kauffman is the Chairman & CEO of MDC Partners (NASDAQ:MDCA), an advertising agency and marketing services holding company, as well as the former Chairman of several venture-backed Internet companies. Scott has 30+ years of corporate executive and board leadership experience with both public and private companies. He is a widely recognized industry leader in the fields of Internet media, consumer marketing and digital entertainment. Previously, Scott was the Co-founder, President and CEO of New Engineering University, an education services company. Before entering academia, Scott was the President and CEO of Geeknet (NASDAQ:GKNT), the parent company of SourceForge, Slashdot and ThinkGeek. He has also served on the national board of the MS Society.

A graduate of Vassar College with a Bachelor’s degree in English, Scott earned his M.B.A. in Marketing at New York University. With his wife, Nanci, he has raised two children, which he counts as his greatest accomplishment.
