March 8, 2008 had begun as any other day. The alarm rang, the coffee brewed, and Robert had his bowl of cereal or toast or yogurt and fruit. But this was not like any other day. He was going to meet a doctor who would tell him what was causing the growing debilitating condition effecting his wife’s use of her arms.
It had begun a year and a half earlier with no explanation or warning. So, there it was. The doctor said it, ALS. There was no cure nor treatment; a death sentence without a date of execution. Over 11 years she was tortured by the unending creeping of the disease with Robert as her primary care giver until her battle ended August 12, 2017.
Robert began to immerse himself in support of the ALS Association and its programs in 2014, as a fund raiser, a Chapter Board member and eventually as Chapter President since 2019. He is currently on the national governance committee, a member of the national strategic planning committee and the BOR voting member of the Upstate NY Chapter.
Professionally Robert was a partner in a 270-member law firm, representing management in labor and employment law for 40 years. From 2006 to 2011 he was the managing partner of the Buffalo office and an adjunct professor at the State University of New York School of Law from 1996 to 2000. He obtained an undergraduate degree in business from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a law degree from the the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
